Optimization Peptide

A plain guide to peptide care

A common comparison · An explainer

Are these weight medicines the same?

You may have reached peptides through an offer about weight or diabetes. Keep the ingredient name, brand name, and way it is prepared in view.

Sort out the medicine and its status.

Your body makes a chemical messenger called GLP-1; that messenger is a hormone. It is linked to hunger and blood sugar. Medicines such as semaglutide are often described using that name.

As of September 26, 2026, semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) has approved products, including tablets and injections; tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) also has approved products.

FDA · Approved product records

FDA is the Food and Drug Administration, the federal medicine-review agency.

Ask for the exact product rather than relying on a familiar brand name in an advert.

A compounded version is not a generic.

As of September 26, 2026, no approved, marketable generic of semaglutide or tirzepatide was available in the United States.

FDA · Application and marketing status

Liraglutide (Victoza, Saxenda) is a different medicine: approved generics exist, including products with a weight-management use.

FDA · Liraglutide generic labels

FDA identifies describing a compounded drug as a generic of an approved drug as a false or misleading claim.

FDA · Wording to question in an offer

A local stock problem is not a national shortage.

Neither tirzepatide nor semaglutide injections appeared on the national shortage list maintained by FDA as of September 26, 2026.

FDA · Shortage status and compounding policy

A listing on FDA's national shortage record allows certain copies under the rules. One pharmacy running out does not put the medicine on that list or give permission to make copies.

FDA · National shortages and local supply gaps

A made-to-order injection can still count as a close copy even if a vitamin is added. The rules limiting copies still apply.

FDA · The vitamin-added copy example

Research products need a separate answer.

Retatrutide and cagrilintide have no condition for which they have been found safe and effective. Neither is permitted as an ingredient for compounding under federal law, FDA states as of September 26, 2026.

FDA · Unapproved weight-drug concerns

Bring any unfamiliar name to the health professional assessing you. A product name on a shopping page is not an answer about care.
